I’m a Survivor
is a documentary theatre piece that uses black humour and is presented with
two points of view: that of my father, a Covid-19 patient (among many other
things), isolated and hospitalised in the middle of a pandemic in the
Hospital of Medina del Campo (Valladolid); and that of a cook (those parts
key to the functioning of a hospital who live on the margins because we
never notice the importance and necessity of their work), in charge of
preparing the menus for the people hospitalised during the health crisis in
our country.
My father's death is now going through our lives and, inexorably, through
this project. I’m a Survivor is a documentary piece about what has
happened to us during this time of confinement (illness, fear, resilience,
death and mourning). And it will also bring to the stage part of my family
history. The character of the cook disappears and my mother will take over
as a caring, invisible and resilient woman.
She will accompany me on stage and will help me document our story and our
present. I’m a Survivor is a documentary theatre piece that will
portray the questions, doubts, ideas, insecurities and fears that we have
experienced all these years and, especially, during this strange time.
